Feline Friday ~ Valentine’s Day Edition

It’s the feline gals of Midnight Calico Farm.
The outdoor ones, at least.
😉

First up, Coal…

Coal likes to sit on the fence poles…

Coal was born here.
We’re not sure if her Mama was Blue, Storm (both have passed on) or Xena.
There was some discussion between the 3 of them, who all had a litter of kittens within days of each other, who exactly was going to raise her.
Since they couldn’t get it together, and Coal was not getting enough to eat (because the adults were too busy carting her around from place to place hiding her from each other) we stepped in and she came inside to be hand raised.
She did go off to a home with friends of Hubby’s, but sadly it didn’t work out.
Our rule for any animals that come from us is if it doesn’t work out, we’ll take them back, no matter what, no questions asked.
She decided indoor/outdoor was what she wanted and so she became one of our hunter cats.

Xena, enjoying a grand back scrubbing in the dirt.

Xena is our Queen!
This gal is one of the toughest cats I’ve ever met.
She can take down a seagull all on her own.
And yet, gentle too.
We have to watch her with chicks, because she loves babies so much, she steals them to raise as her own.

Then, there’s Gabrielle…

Hunting butt wiggle…

Clearly her and Coal are related.
Gabrielle is Xena’s younger sister, and is fairly feral.
We didn’t have much chance to tame her while she was little, so we’ve been working on it for the past couple of years.

All the girls are now spayed, so no more kittens here!
Instead of following the biological imperative to procreate, they hunt, and enjoy lying around in the sunshine.
🙂

Next week, the boys!

Cats!!

Out taking pictures the other day and I noticed Gabrielle had her eye on something…

Crouched down in the classic butt wiggle ready to pounce pose…

What could it be that she was after?

CoalCat!

Yep, she was trying to play with CoalCat, who doesn’t understand Gabrielle’s rough’n’tumble claws out way of playing.

“Nope. I’m outta here!”
~ Coal

Gabrielle was disappointed, but only for a moment…Daphne stepped in to play.
*Then* Gabrielle wasn’t so sure she wanted to play anymore.
Daphne plays way rougher, and faster, than she does!
Sadly that went by way too fast for me to capture.
lol

This is an example of Daphne’s style…here she getting Ghost to chase her, while doing dog zoomies around him.

Daphne always thinks she’s hit the jackpot when cats play, no matter how rough they do it.
Claws and teeth don’t bother her one bit.

Farm Kitties

Every where I go on the Farm, there’s a cat.
Here a cat…
There a cat…
Every where a cat, cat…

Today I wanted to take a few shots of the horses dozing in the sunlight. Instead, I took kitty pictures.

Xena, asking for belly rubs…

She does love a good belly rub, that girl!
Then I hear meowing…

Ghost (in front) and Trouble

Every where Ghost goes, it’s with a conversation. He’s a talker that boy. Oh, and he’s a pretty big fan of the whole belly rub thing too.
So much for my big tough TomCat!

“Do you mind??!?”
~Gabrielle

She popped into a hoof hole to have a pee…seemed like a fine time to take her picture. Clearly, she is not impressed!
Notice the Ghost influenced eyes…she is obviously his daughter, seeing as how her Mama (Fiona) was a Siamese with blue eyes.

Finally, one from Saturday…

Max and Ruby

Just in case you don’t understand why this is hilarious to me, here’s a link:
