Friday’s Hunt May 14th

Happy Mother’s Day.

If your kids have 2 feet or 4 feet…
If your kids are no longer with you, for any reason…
If motherhood in your world is complicated…
If you’re the picture perfect Mama…

Happy Mother’s Day.

I see you. ❤
I feel you. ❤
I love you. ❤
Thank you for all you do.
You got this. ❤

Happy Mother’s Day.

This week’s prompts for Friday’s Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills are Starts with S, Week’s Favorite, and Family.

Starts with S

Hmmm, I don’t know what we could use for S…
Might be too hard of a prompt for me. 😉
LOL!
Of course, starts with s would have to be our dear sweet Sable.

Someone once asked me if I was going to dedicate myself to the service of Epona since I have horses… I said, “Since I have horses, I am already in Her service.”

Our amazing golden Girl, who someone dropped at auction with no explanation why, but we were Blessed to meet and fall in love with.
She is meant to be here.

Week’s Favorite

Another one who is meant to be here…
He came here from who knows where, feral and frightened of all humans.
It took The Kid and I near onto 2 years to convince him that humans can be trusted. He’s become my FarmYard pal, following me all over, talking up a storm. We just recently got him neutered, so he’ll stop heeding the call to find a willing female to spread his rugged handsomeness around the community. 😉

Ghost

Dang, the boy knows how to pose for a picture.
He’s so good-looking!

Family

Here we have Miss Xena…

This little missy is one of 3 of Ghost’s kittens who are still here.
Of our 5 remaining barn cats, 4 are family, and 2 in the house are related as well (Nancy and Daisy Mae).
Xena is a fantastic huntress.
This kitty took down a seagull on her own!
Of course, all the Ghost babies seem to have skill hunting…
Xena with gulls, Gabrielle is an expert with rodents, and Trouble?
Yeah, Trouble has taken down smaller geese.

That’s pretty darn amazing!

Friday’s Hunt May 7th

I must admit, we are all feeling much better.
Thank goodness! It’s been a tough couple of weeks, with all of us being down in some way.
This whole farming lifestyle does not play well with being sick, I tell ya! 😉

I did get out last week to take some pictures, and yesterday, we had a wonderful afternoon of grooming and pampering the Girls.
That was so great for the Spirit…even if I did scare Cookie a time or 2 with my coughing. lol

And, I’m even on time for my offerings for this week’s Friday’s Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.
The prompts are Starts with R, Week’s Favorite and Window

Starts with R

Who else but our loveable Ruby?

She was such a great Girl yesterday! ❤

See?
Purple halter…not her red breakaway, because she’s been a very good Girl about getting haltered to work, and then being released.
She’s come a long way, our Ruby Girl has, and we’re super proud of her. ❤
Now, if only that Cookie would give up her breakaway…*sigh*

Week’s Favorite

Speaking of The Cookie…

My beautiful Girl having a nap…in the pile of hay.
Of course!
Where else do you nap, but in the pile of expensive food that Mama puts out for you to eat?!?
Brat. 😉

Window

I had a very small window of opportunity to capture this next image…
I was scratching Astrid’s withers, and it was a darn good scratch. So much so, she reached out to groom Ruby (because we don’t allow the horses to groom us…) and in order to catch it, I had to dash backwards and push the button in time, before Astrid stopped.

“Oh, such a good scratch!
Feels soooooo good!”
~Astrid

I’m glad I was able to capture at least one shot!
Have a great week friends…

Winging It

Maybe y’all have noticed that it’s been 2(ish) weeks since my last post.
Sorry ’bout that. It’s been an interesting time…
I missed last week’s Friday’s Hunt (Starts with P, Week’s Fave, Foot), which I’ll do now, with this week’s prompts(Starts with Q, Week’s Fave, Evening) as well, and I haven’t taken any pictures since the 15th, when I did some portraits at the Stable.

So, grab a coffee, and let me spin for you the yarn that has been the last 2 weeks here on the Farm…

Like I said, the 15th, I did some portraits at the Stable, starting with this very handsome fellow…

Oreo

This is the Barn Manager’s boy, Oreo, an OTTB, who can be as silly as he is pretty…and damn is he pretty! lol!
This shot is actually from after we were done shooting, and he just happened to be perfectly in the light for a lovely sunflare…

This next fellow, I just love…of course, I am a bit biased towards the black and white paints. 😉
(We’ll call this one week’s favorite for last week, ‘kay?)

Marty

Oh, but that blue eye! ❤
And, he’s such a little sweetheart…I’m looking forward to finishing editing his set…

Yeah, so I haven’t even finished with editing, because by the Monday after, I came down with the plague that has been going around. It’s a flu/cold/plague of death that just kicks your butt all the way to bed and back around the corner. It is unlike anything I’ve caught before…and now, 2 weeks later, I *still* have it. Ugh. It’s just plain gross.
That first few days, my morning chores, which normally take 35-45 minutes, were taking me 2 hours. Seriously. Just gross.
Computer time fell by the wayside.
Until, I decided out of the blue, to attempt to calibrate my new-to-me monitor. I only got it because it’s bigger than my old one…the problem is, the aspect ratio was wrong, and no matter what I did, all my images looked distorted.
*sigh*
So, I’m back to my old monitor, and I’m waiting for my tech guy to come out and update my OS. Mint has been giving me…issues…and DarkTable hasn’t been running as smoothly as it should. 😡
But, I can still edit, and now, that’s what I getting back to…

Oh, wait though…
A week ago Thursday, Hubby wakes me up at 4am and says “Uh, there’s something wrong with me…”
He was dizzy, nauseous, vision was wonky…and then he passed out at my feet.
Oh, joy.
Not.

Really really really really long story short…
Double inner ear infection.
Scary as hell at 4am, and you think your partner just had a heart attack in front of you.
Doctors, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and sleep…lots and lots of sleep…and he’s starting to feel better.

This past Tuesday, the last of my outdoor cats went to get fixed.
Yay!
Both Ghost…

Ghost, with feet in the air, asking for a belly rub…

And TroubleCat (awww!! Baby picture!)…

That Trouble is an adorable little fellow, that’s for sure!

Have lost their nuts…
And so, now they can stay home, and hunt here, while lounging on the deck in the sunshine during the day.
No more cats fights, no more injuries, no more holes from hunting geese…

The Kid now has her beginner’s driver’s license.
Driver’s Ed has been giving me fits.
I know the in class session schedule, but not the in-car schedule, and so it’s been hard to plan anything, or book her riding lessons.
And me, well, I have no control over this and it’s driving (lol) me nuts.
Control freak with no control over things…oh, it’s painful.

But, it hasn’t all been trying, this past few weeks.
I did get my seeds started, for my tomatoes, hot peppers and sweet peppers. I have them in the library this year, so that I don’t forget them in the basement…so far so good. We’re getting close to the first re-potting.
*sigh*
I’m going to have a garden this year, no matter what!

I’ve confirmed my new hens for June.
Again, we’re going with the ex-battery girls.
They’re already laying, and it gives them a chance at a good life of freedom in their yard, until we replace them in a year’s time.
This year’s girls will get the chop…we’ll take out what we can use for ground chicken, and the rest will become cat food.
They’ve had a great life with us here, and now it’s time for them to feed the kitties.
As sad as it is for the hennys, only the horses get a free pass to be money eating pets. 😉

Sable ❤

For Q, we’re going to use this image of Sable…quietly having a nap in the sunshine.

This week’s favorite, is this one…from my portraits at the Stable…

Odie

This guy…OMG.
He is so gorgeous. The second I saw him, I wanted to photograph him.
I wanted him in a black background shoot so freakin’ bad.
Yeah, I’m working my way through the editing of his shoot, and he did not disappoint, let me tell you!
I will admit, I normally cull shots where I lose part of a muzzle. I’m really not a fan of them, but this one, I love his eye so much here…I just had to keep this shot because of it.

And so, I think I’ve pretty much caught y’all up on things here.
We’re finally getting back on track.
Enjoying the weather, letting the sun soak into our bodies and Heal us.
To finish, an evening image from a few weeks ago…

Sharing with Friday’s Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.

Happy Easter

Somewhere in our travels, we found a bunny ear headband.
Around here, things like that are meant to be worn by horses.
I know most people buy them to put on their kids…heh, not me. Unless you count the horses (and Daphne) as my kids. Some (most) days I feel like they’re my over sized toddlers. LOL!
I’m going to use my Easter photos for this week’s Friday’s Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.

Starts with O

I was going to make oatmeal/banana cookies yesterday, and then photograph Cookie attempting to eat them…well, we got back from the Stable later than I anticipated last night. After chores and supper, I wasn’t feeling like baking…
Today though. I hope. 😉
Instead for O, we have this:

Oh my, Puppy!!

She was not a happy puppy about this Easter ears thing. 😉

Week’s Favorite

Sable EasterPony

She was so happy to wear the ears.
At one point, The Kid took them off of her to put on Astrid, and she pouted until Kid put them back on her…

Once again, Astrid felt this wasn’t as fun as she thought it would be…silly Girl!

Blossom

We have nothing blooming here yet, so we’ll go with this…
I am so happy with how this horse has blossomed in her time with me. She’s gone from a shut-down introverted horse to a happy sassy mare who seems to love her life here…and will wear just about anything I ask her to:

Cookie EasterPony

Happy Easter!

Friday’s Hunt April 9th

I made it!!
Article submitted, images for today’s post, and now, I have a wee bit of breathing room before I start editing some super ultra gorgeous shots I took over the weekend.

That means bbq, and some home made wine. Sounds like a darn fine plan before the new week begins…

Starts with N

Ghost

This numbskull came home with a helluva injury this past week.
He’s been on antibiotics and pain meds, plus I’m having to clean his wound several times a day. He’ll heal up just fine though. He’s a tough boy, my Ghost is.
Dang TomCat hormones…I’m tired of patching this guy up, I tell ya! So, he’s got a date to get neutered.
That should take the fight out of him…
And when he goes, Mr. TroubleCat will go too.
That way, everyone who is still here will be fixed.
Hopefully, no more will show up. :/

Week’s Favorite

Not the greatest technically, but, I love, love, love her enthusiasm here….

Sable

The water is almost all soaked in, and the Girls were ripping it up something fierce. I just happened to step outside with the camera and she popped her head over the gate to say hi!

Blue

I make wine.
After 14 years of not drinking, we moved to a farm, and we started drinking again. It’s nice, every now and then, to sit on the deck and have a drink.
And, I have come to enjoy creating my own wines. Eventually, I hope to have a grand little fruit patch to make wines from.

Hand in hand with that, goes the need for bottles.
Well, we have a good friend (actually, we have a few friends who do) who saves her empty bottles for us and she’s given me some really pretty ones…

Nancy is helping me…

And colours!
These are the prettiest shades of blue. 🙂

Friday’s Hunt April 2nd

Well, we still have water.
But it’s going down fast. Thank goodness!
The wind is helping, and we’ve had some wonderful warm weather.
I’m even seeing wee bits of green shoots of grass starting.
The hennys have finally decided that coming out of the coop for longer periods of time is a grand plan. They found a 1/4 of a medium square straw bale we had given them in the fall…now they are having fun ripping it apart and eating what bits of wheat they can find in it.

It’s so nice to see happy birds, and happy horses…though the Girls are frustrated that the grass isn’t long enough to eat yet. They are so tired of hay. Their bodies are crying out for new grass, much like we humans are craving green salads and fresh veggies.
I tell them it’s coming soon, but I’m not sure they believe me. 😉

This week, the prompts for Friday’s Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills are Starts with M, Week’s Favorite and Water.
Shall we?

Starts with M

My Girl…
My dirty, dirty Girl…

Having a shake after a roll on the last of the snow…

There’s almost no snow now, so any bit they find, they roll and roll and roll and roll on, trying to scrub out the winter coat.

Week’s Favorite

Silhouette!!
From yesterday at the Stable…I love silhouette days, and the Running of the Horses is an awesome time to practice getting those action/silhouette shots.

Coming in for dinner…

Water

Oh, poor Bella WaterHorse…

She loves to play in water, but not freezing cold-just-melted-from-being-ice water. Nope, our Girl loves sun warmed water to play in. ❤

“Uh, Kid? Could ya come help me out here?”

She stood there for a good 5 minutes, until The Kid went out an led her to dry land. It’s not that she couldn’t get there herself, she was just feeling sucky…and well, there was a big stick that might have been a killer water snake that might have gotten her…for the record, we have no killer water snakes around here. LOL!!
But, once she realized it was a stick, she tried to pick it up to take to The Kid…
Silly horse!

Friday’s Hunt March 26th

Earlier in the week, on the Farm FB page, I asked what people thought a Homestead was, was it different from a Farm, if so, how?
I got some great answers, and then, I was going to post mine.
Except, as I started writing what I thought each meant, and how they related to one another, I realized it was getting long…and so, it’s becoming a blog post.

In the meantime, today is my offerings for Friday’s Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.
I’ve made it to “L” and I don’t want to break my record this far…so you’ll have to wait for my Farm/Homestead post until later on in the week. 🙂

Starts with L

How about leap?

As we were heading to town Thursday evening, we spotted a group of more than 10 whitetails enjoying the hayfield at the end of our mile road. Once Hubby slowed down and rolled his window down for me to photograph, they made the great escape.

Week’s Favorite

Look that the air!

Love this!!
That’s a 5 foot high fence post, and that deer has cleared it with room to spare. Their jumping abilities are absolutely amazing.
I’m lucky to have caught him/her mid-flight like this.

Antique

I don’t have anything for antique…instead I give you Ruby in her black background portrait.

I’m still working on the one that is the perfect representation of Ruby’s personality…her toungue is hanging out. lol!

Have a great week all…Spring does seem to really be here. I know, because I’ve caught the Spring crud, and the horses are shedding their winter coats in clumps.
Won’t be long until we’re seeing green. 🙂
