Deer Watching

We wandered off to a local rodeo this past Saturday.
Took some pictures, enjoyed the mini donuts (I need a mini donut machine!), bought tickets to the foal raffle (we didn’t win 😦 ) and then, on the drive home, we saw these young ladies:

“Oh. Hello.
Did you want to pass?”

We were in no hurry, so Hubby just stopped the truck, while I and friend Shay pulled out our cameras.
And while it’s not the best quality image (it’s taken through the dirty windshield) I love this shot. ❤

Then Hubby caught movement to his left…

Hiding in the trees of the cow pasture, watching to see what we were going to do.

Friday’s Hunt March 26th

Earlier in the week, on the Farm FB page, I asked what people thought a Homestead was, was it different from a Farm, if so, how?
I got some great answers, and then, I was going to post mine.
Except, as I started writing what I thought each meant, and how they related to one another, I realized it was getting long…and so, it’s becoming a blog post.

In the meantime, today is my offerings for Friday’s Hunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills.
I’ve made it to “L” and I don’t want to break my record this far…so you’ll have to wait for my Farm/Homestead post until later on in the week. 🙂

Starts with L

How about leap?

As we were heading to town Thursday evening, we spotted a group of more than 10 whitetails enjoying the hayfield at the end of our mile road. Once Hubby slowed down and rolled his window down for me to photograph, they made the great escape.

Week’s Favorite

Look that the air!

Love this!!
That’s a 5 foot high fence post, and that deer has cleared it with room to spare. Their jumping abilities are absolutely amazing.
I’m lucky to have caught him/her mid-flight like this.

Antique

I don’t have anything for antique…instead I give you Ruby in her black background portrait.

I’m still working on the one that is the perfect representation of Ruby’s personality…her toungue is hanging out. lol!

Have a great week all…Spring does seem to really be here. I know, because I’ve caught the Spring crud, and the horses are shedding their winter coats in clumps.
Won’t be long until we’re seeing green. 🙂

Yesterday on the Farm

We’ve been having some lovely weather. Warm, but not too warm, windy, but not crazy windy, and oh, the sunshine!! Just right to soothe Spirits that were rain/wind battered just a few short weeks ago.
This kind of weather leads to very sleepy horses…

Asleep on her feet...

Asleep on her feet…

Front legs locked, hip cocked, and look at that bottom lip. That Girl was out!

Napping in the sunshine

Napping in the sunshine

Such a sleepy Girl. So nice though, to have that sunshine to enjoy. That last storm was even hard on her. *sigh* Sucks getting old. 😉

"Can't talk Mom. Busy sleeping..."

“Can’t talk Mom. Busy sleeping…”

❤ those droopy, sleepy bottom lips! ❤

These 2 were sleeping like this...not unusual for them.

These 2 were dozing like this…not unusual for them.

Sleep-a-Ru

Sleep-a-Ru

Oh, Ruby! She was so asleep, she had one front knee buckle…I’d never seen that before! She caught herself before she fell though. She probably should have just laid down. 😉

While the Girl’s dozed I wandered off to take a few other pictures…the best 2 were the grackle…

Grackle on a post...

Grackle on a post…

And the piggie in the water pan…

"Yes, I stand in my water to drink. So what?!?"

“Yes, I stand in my water to drink. So what?!?”

Finally, a shot from early yesterday morning…
I was busy doing some work when The Kid calls me to tell me the neighbours dog is out in our big field again. Normally, not a big deal, but she’s some sort of herding dog mix, and I have 4 big old herd animals that she wants to herd something fierce! So, we try, as gently as possible, to discourage her from coming to visit the horses.
Yes, we’ve talked to her owners, and she’s normally really good about staying home, but sometimes she makes the grand escape and comes to visit.

So, the Kid grabs the binoculars and yells “It’s not Paulie it’s…”

"...a deer!!"

“…a deer!!”

What a lovely early morning visitor! And, thanks to The Kid’s great eye, and a quick lens change, I got a few great shots of her. ❤
