When Plans Go Awry

Happens a lot with equines and cameras.
I had a plan for a photoshoot this past weekend, because our Sable and our Kid both turned 20 on Friday.
Now, keep in mind, my Kid hates having her picture taken.
But I keep saying, at least 1 time a year she has to do a photoshoot of some sort with Sable.
Because she ain’t getting any younger and she’s already retired with arthritis and one day, we’re gonna have to face the worst decision ever.

Until then, though…
Pictures.

So I had a plan (I ain’t sharing what it is yet, because we’re gonna try again).
But then the wind came up, and snowmobilers were zipping up and down the road (can’t blame ’em, it was a lovely day out and their season will be ending soon) and her herd mates were being colossal dinks…

And this is how my plan ended up…note, this was *NOT* a part of my plan.
At.
All.

Miss prancy dancy pants…

Area 51 North

There’s a teeny place in the middle of Manitoba.
A place where it’s rumored that the aliens have landed.
On more than one occasion.

That’s right, Oak Hammock Marsh, is rumored to be a hotbed of alien activity.

Area 51 North, if you will.

And so when we looked out into our back yard (which may, or may not be, within alien distance to the Marsh) and saw this lovely Palomalien standing there, we had no choice…

The Kid had to go and try to tame the beauty!

It didn’t take long for The Kid to get a leash on her…

A soft voice and quiet hand and that Palomalien was ready for The Kid to touch her face.

Not sure what the leash attached to her meant, The Kid used a cookie to explain to the Palomalien what she wanted her to do…

And when the Palomalien understood, The Kid offered her the sweetest treat yet.
Her very own bright red apple to enjoy!

Oh and enjoy the Palomalien did!!
So much so that she followed The Kid readily to her new shelter.
❀

Another bite of apple to cement the friendship, and the Palomalien was completely smitten with The Kid.
So when The Kid asked her to stand just so…
I jumped at the chance to take a portrait photo of our wonderful new Palomalien.

Never let anyone tell you aliens aren’t real.
We know they are.
We know…
The truth is out there.
In Area 51 North.

I am so grateful for our Palomalien.
Not a lot of aliens would be okay with photoshoots like this, but this one?
Oh yeah.
Plus, the Palomalien and The Kid turned 19 and this was their annual birthday photoshoot.
So I’m thankful my Kid was (albeit grudgingly) willing to pose in front of the camera. πŸ˜‰

Also sharing with Word of the Day Challenge for Kick, because holy moly did I get a kick out of doing this shoot.
And the editing.
I swear I giggled like a fool going through the images.
The Palomalien and her Kid are incredibly cute together.

Finally…
Happy 19th birthday to our Old Lady and our Young Lady.
May they have many many more happy years together.

47

Yesterday was a day just like any other day.
Hay was cut.
Weeds were pulled.
Pigs ate the weeds.
Chickens did too.
There were eggs collected.
Beet pulp given to horses.

Oh, and a 4’x5′ mirror was taken out to the pasture for a little photography fun.

I had a certain *something* in mind…and I got that done, but not before the Mares had to find out who these interloper horses were…

“I can see you…you are very pretty. ❀
Want to be friends?
You do smell a bit odd though…”
~Sable

“Who. Are. You.
*snort*
I. Don’t. Like. You.
*snort*”
~Astrid

Watching the 2 of them was absolutely hilarious.
Makes me want to find a safer way to put the mirror out there for more photo fun.
This wasn’t the best because it was just leaned up on Cookie’s Tree, and Hubby had to hold it. Astrid kept giving it hard nudges, while snorting, telling that “Other Horse” to piss off out of her pasture.
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
And yet Ruby didn’t even care about it…which is why I’d love to set it up again, to see if she’d take an interest without us people around.

Anyways, once Hubby and The Kid backed the 2 fools up, I got to do what I was there to do…

Self portrait

Not too shabby a shot for my 47th birthday.

Birthday Pictures

A couple of weeks ago, my Kid and her horse turned 18.
If you remember from last year, I mentioned how we didn’t have an exact age on Sable, only an estimate of between 14 and 20ish…so, we arbitrarily assigned her the same age and birthdate as her human.
That way, the 2 of them can celebrate together.
πŸ™‚

This year was 18.
Ain’t nothin’ makes a Mama feel old like her baby turning 18…
But I thought we oughta have fun with it, so the pair of them got new toques and scarves, and enjoyed coffee and Timbits together.

“I can haz deez treats??”

Once Kiddo opened that box, there was no stopping the Palomino from eating!

“Mmmmm, some coffee would be good with my treats!”

She enjoys sticking her tongue into the cup waaaaay too much though! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

“Um, hello…any of those left for Unicorns?”

Ruby was rather put out that there was none left for her.

“Hey Astrid, I think we got ripped off!”

But at least they got to enjoy the empty box.
