Wordless Wednesday

We’re at the point in the cycle of seasons where the urge to get things going for the coming spring is soooo strong.
And yet, we know that it’s just a wee bit too soon.
Napping in the sunshine is the way to go.
At least until March 1st.
Then…
Then it begins!

Capture52 ~ Week 7 Love

I’m slow.
Last week was Love.
But I was waiting for weather to settle down, for the sun to shine, for things to be just right before I created the images I wanted for this prompt.

1978
My Dad bought this rifle for my Mom’s birthday.
Had their names and the date engraved on it.
“Elaine May 13/78
Love Rene”

Both my parents are gone now, and this is mine.
A family heirloom that will be passed on to my daughter when she’s ready for it.
Love is shown in so many different ways…this one, to me, is beautiful and captures my parents love for each other perfectly.

Almost Here!

Tracking says my incubator is in the nearest big city.
All I need is for it to make it to where we can pick it up.
Squeee!!

And, I’ve contacted the lady I bought Lemon Chicken’s batch of chicks from…

Lemon Chicken is in this box somewhere!

She’s selling hatching eggs from the same crosses that Lemon Chicken came from.
Hopefully I’ll be getting 2 dozen from her at the end of the month.
Looking forward to firing up the incubators!

Hoping to hatch out a few more like her! πŸ˜‰

Feline Friday ~ Valentine’s Day Edition

It’s the feline gals of Midnight Calico Farm.
The outdoor ones, at least.
πŸ˜‰

First up, Coal…

Coal likes to sit on the fence poles…

Coal was born here.
We’re not sure if her Mama was Blue, Storm (both have passed on) or Xena.
There was some discussion between the 3 of them, who all had a litter of kittens within days of each other, who exactly was going to raise her.
Since they couldn’t get it together, and Coal was not getting enough to eat (because the adults were too busy carting her around from place to place hiding her from each other) we stepped in and she came inside to be hand raised.
She did go off to a home with friends of Hubby’s, but sadly it didn’t work out.
Our rule for any animals that come from us is if it doesn’t work out, we’ll take them back, no matter what, no questions asked.
She decided indoor/outdoor was what she wanted and so she became one of our hunter cats.

Xena, enjoying a grand back scrubbing in the dirt.

Xena is our Queen!
This gal is one of the toughest cats I’ve ever met.
She can take down a seagull all on her own.
And yet, gentle too.
We have to watch her with chicks, because she loves babies so much, she steals them to raise as her own.

Then, there’s Gabrielle…

Hunting butt wiggle…

Clearly her and Coal are related.
Gabrielle is Xena’s younger sister, and is fairly feral.
We didn’t have much chance to tame her while she was little, so we’ve been working on it for the past couple of years.

All the girls are now spayed, so no more kittens here!
Instead of following the biological imperative to procreate, they hunt, and enjoy lying around in the sunshine.

Next week, the boys!

Hay Math

I was doing some hay math the other day.
Y’know, figuring out what we have left for hay to last until the pasture grows…
I figure with some extra supplementing with hay cubes and beet pulp (which they get anyways) we’ll be okay.
I *might* have a bale or two left over.
I hope.

Plus, The Merry Mares got their 2nd large oat straw round bale.
This they get whole, so they can tear it apart, dig through it for grain bits to eat, chew the straw itself and then sleep in it.
It’s not just food, it’s entertainment.
And that comes in handy when you’ve got 3 very large bored toddlers.
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Here’s what the bale looked like when Hubby gave it to them…

Before the bale exploded…

Don’t mind Ruby…she was just finishing a pee. And was rather proud of herself for whizzing in the bale first.
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

And then today…

Peek a boo!

They’ve destroyed the bale and built it into a nest.
That way they can lay in it and eat too.
Some people’s horses.
lol

Heartfelt

I ask this, with real heartfelt emotion…

What the actual fuck, Mother Nature?

Yesterday we were a beautiful -1*c, and that ^^^ is today.
And it’s warmed up 5* already.
Holy. Effing. Moly.
πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Ά

Here’s a shot of Astrid sleeping on the composting poo pile for warmth…

Awww, she’s so cute when she sleeps like this.

Monday Mood…

I’m slow today.
Just popped an angel food cake in the oven.
Hopefully warm cake will give me energy.
‘Til then, Sable says it all…

Is she laughing?
Yawning?
Silently screaming for coffee?
Only CinderBella knows.
