Feline Friday

Nancy and I were having a discussion this morning…

It was a “facts vs feelings” based discussion.
I’m big on facts.
I haven’t always been, I’ll admit. There have been times where I let my feelings rule me. If I hadn’t been like that, I wouldn’t have moved the Family out of the city for a horse…a horse who turned out to be one of my Great Loves of my life. πŸ˜‰
Nowadays, I try very hard to make fact based decisions.
Sure, I want to eventually get a 4th horse, but the facts of ownership make me far more cautious and careful as I ponder the idea.

Nancy has absolutely no interest in facts.
He’s a cat, so that’s no surprise.

“Look, I iz pretty, I don’t hav to be smrt”

This morning’s conversation went something like this:

Nancy: “Birds! I have to get in the window!”
Me: “Nope. No cats in that window”
Nancy: “But birds!!”
Me: “Nope. My plants are there.”
Nancy: “Birds!!”
Me: “Get out. You’ll kill my plants, and I’ll kick your butt!”
Nancy: “But Mooooooommmm!! BIRDS!!”
Me: “I don’t care! Go look at them out the living room window. You are not getting in this one!”
Nancy: “You just don’t understand…birds!!”
Me: “Oh, I understand, I just don’t care. Fact is, you’ll kill my plants that I have worked hard to get growing for the garden. Fact is, I’ll kick you fuzzy butt for killing my plants. Fact is, your feelings about birds can be expressed in the living room. Now, out!”
Nancy: “Mean. You are a mean Mama.”
Me: “Yup. And don’t you forget it.”

“Why you so mean to me, Mama??”

It’s a rough life being poor Nancy NotSoFancyPants. πŸ˜‰
He was feeling rather betrayed by my meanness…

Sunrise, Sunset

Hey friends.
How are y’all doing?
I know posts have been sparse.
Sorry ’bout that.

We’re getting deeper into mud/puddle season.
Before we’re into full on mud season, we’re trying to move some snow away from the equine common areas, fill holes with straw, and make sure everyone has their hooves done. I really hate when mud season messes with their trim schedule… 😑

I’m still fighting my camera.
The urge to shoot has been…lackluster is the best way to put it.
And yet, I’m trying to force myself out into the farm yard with it.
Watch the side bar, because I’m trying to put up images on Instagram on a regular basis…or you can follow us over there.

In the meantime, the WordPress photo challenge for this week caught my eye…

Rise/Set

Ahh, now I do love me those early mornings, watching the sun come up and capturing the mares doing what they do best…being horses.

Paints in the morning sunlight.

Sable enjoys the warmth of the rising sun…

Cookie practices her unicorn poses as the sun rises.

And those times I’ve caught them in the setting sun…

Hopefully, I’ll have more to share as I get out more and more with Spring.
Bear with me, friends.
I’m still adjusting.

Uncompromising

I won’t say
I’m uncompromising,
but
I won’t compromise
just for the hell of it.
~ George A. Romero

I love this.
I completely agree with this.
In my opinion, compromise is 2 parties *both* agreeing to give something of value, to have their needs/wants met.
All too often, of late, “compromise” is a word used to tell folks “sit down, shut up and do as your told”.
That doesn’t fly with me.
When faced with people like that I become uncompromising.
Obstinate, even.
But then, I have been known to be stubborn…a bit mulish even…
πŸ˜‰

Probably why this Girl and I connected…eventually.

Pair of stubborn old nags who had to learn how to compromise to get what we both wanted.
I like to think it was worth it…
I hope she would say the same.

A Story in Pictures

Sometimes, I have to be a wee bit sneaky to capture the mares being silly.
Fact is, all too often, they hear the camera and they stop whatever it was I wanted to photograph.

For example, this series.
I had to take my shots through the back screen door…and, as you can see, Astrid was still focused on the door, instead of playing with her equine sisters.

I’m not sure exactly what the conversation was about (I have my suspicions, based on Ruby’s faces at the end πŸ˜‰ ), but it makes for an interesting pictorial story.

Restart

Today seems to be one of those days where I need a restart
Trying to get my brain engaged enough to get things done, and brain just ain’t having anything to do with it.

Ruby has the right idea…
A nap in the sunshine oughta help!

Start by doing what’s necessary;
then do what’s possible;
and suddenly you are doing
the impossible.
~ Francis of Assisi

Yeah, a sunshine nap is just what the Spirit needs…
