Snowflakes

We have had some wild winds this week.
Cold, windy…makes a girl want to hibernate.
Oh, but yesterday, the winds died down for while, and we had a little bit of snowfall.
In fact, winds were quiet enough that we fired up the bbq for the first time in near onto 2 weeks.
That, for us, is a loooong time to not be grilling something. Even in winter!

While I left the Hubby to tend the food, I grabbed my camera (it’s happening more and more ❤ ) and headed off to see the Girls.
See, in a lot of the photography groups, macro shots of snowflakes is all the rage. I’ve done it before:

Snowflakes on Astrid (from 2016)

Snowflakes on Cookie(from 2016)

Last night my best shot was on Sable…who kept turning around to see why I was getting so close to her belly without scratching all the spots that need the scratching.

Snowflake on Sable

The important thing in last night’s image though, isn’t the snowflake.
It’s lovely, but look deeper…beyond that long winter coat, you can see hints of gold in there.
That, my friends, means our Palomino Princess is starting her summertime coat.
Spring is coming!

I Had a Plan…

But, Mother Nature thwarted me once again.
😂

Y’see, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and, even though we humans don’t recognize the “forced to prove how much you love your mate with cash and gifts” day, it can make for fun photo shoots with the horses.
Y’all remember the one with Cookie and the heart on her forehead?

My pretty Valentine.

❤ My Love ❤

Today I had planned on heading out and attempting something similar…
But Mother Nature.
Holy, she’s been a bit of a bitch this year!
While it’s only -9*c, the wind is gusting to 74km/h.
Which means ain’t none of my Girls can manage a decent thought in their heads. Too busy with wind blowing things right out. 😉

So, instead, I offer you these shots…

TroubleCat

The look mister gives me when I don’t make with the food fast enough.
LOL!!
He’s so cuddly. 🙂

Peek-a-boo!!
I see you through the willows!

Darn wind blew that poor horse right over.
Again.
😂

Simplify

My mind was always very cluttered,
so I took great pains
to simplify my environment,
because if my environment
were half as cluttered as my mind,
I wouldn’t be able to make it
from room to room.

~ Leonard Cohen

There is not much that is more peaceful, or beautiful, than the simplicity of a napping equine.
These are the sights that calm my noisy Spirit and ground me in the wonder that is my world.

Bewildered

Love is the strange
bewilderment
that overtakes one person
on account
of another person.
– James Thurber

This is my equine “hard keeper”.
Clearly, I’m doing something right this winter.
That mare is positively chunky, and her Girlie is going to have to get her back into shape come nicer weather. 🙂
This, my friends, is a good thing.

Runnin’

I have spent the last 3 months feeling sad and tired.
I am, quite honestly, sick and tired of feeling sad and tired.
And the ridiculous cold has not helped at all.

So when Hubby had to pull the tractor out to move hay bales and clear snow, he asked if I wanted him to exercise the Girls while I took pictures…I happily agreed.
Both because I needed the camera time, and because those mares were getting fat and lazy.
😉

Galloping towards the camera…

I will admit, I lost my breath for a bit when I only counted 3…
Of course, I have the same problem every time I hang their beet pulp buckets. Every damn day, a tear escapes when I hang 3 buckets instead of 4. :/

Galloping away from the camera…

Took those nags a bit to get back into the swing of running about, having fun. When they caught on, they ran for a good 45 minutes.
Those were happy, happy equines!

I love Sable’s face in this shot…she looks so happy!

And then…

Ears!!

Ruby put on the cranky mare ears because Sable tried licking her muzzle…it’s something she used to do to Cookie.
Old habits and all that stuff.
To be fair, Cookie wasn’t thrilled with it either, but it’s something Sable does to be affectionate with her herdmates.

I’ve also been working my way through some old images on the hard drives. I have sooooo many that I need to pare down.
Including a couple of cute ones from the Stable where The Kid takes her lessons:

Joe the Barn Cat

The horses were coming in and Joe wanted to be out before they got there!

Brazzle

He’s a lovely, snuggly fellow.

I love that big door for taking pictures.
I get so many great shots there.

Creature

This fellow…

Ghost ❤

He is such a lovely creature.

He appeared one day, a couple of years ago, out of nowhere.
Thin, scraggly and feral.
Time, good food and a lot of patience, and here we are…

He’s my lap sitting snuggle buddy.
Once we caught him, we took him for vetting, got him fixed and he’s been a happy boy ever since.
He’s done well this winter, as you can see.
Not too many farm cats look pregnant…especially the boys! 😂
But, my felines eat well on butchering scraps and a handful of kibble here and there.
He’s such a sweetheart.
I do love my big GhostCat.
