The Best Horses in Heaven

This poem has been floating around on Facebook, and I thought I’d share it here…

The best horses in Heaven
they have no tail.
This is a rule they all know
without fail.
For when a new horse arrives
with a short cut bob,
they all know that this horse
did a very good job.

His owner could not bear
to part with her friend
so she saved his tail,
wrapped in ribbons
and in braids,
to hold with his memory
in a very loving way.

To enter Heaven
without a tail
is an honor,
a message,
that without fail
announces to everyone,
far and wide
that this horse
was more than a wonderful ride.

this horse was loved and cherished by one
and when his time serving on this Earth was done
he left behind
a broken heart
and a soul
from which he never will part.

What a beautiful poem and amazingly sweet picture. I had no idea that horse guardians did this when their horses passed. Thanks for sharing this with us. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer and Mom Janet

It’s a very popular thing to do.
Then, many of us have jewelry made from the tail.
I haven’t decided what I want to do with Cookie’s yet…though I’m leaning towards sending some shorter strands off to have a piece of pottery done.
Kevin Matthews does gorgeous work, and I’m leaning towards a coffee cup.

We were so distraught when we had to euthanize our mare that we forgot to cut her tail. I don’t regret many things, but that is definitely one! We’ll remember with the others! Beautiful poem and so true.
