The Birthday Carrot

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before how I have to hold carrots for Cookie to eat. She loves them, but won’t eat them unless they’re being held for her. And yeah, it has to be me. No, I do not spoil her. πŸ˜‰
Actually, she doesn’t get many carrots, because carrots tend to be high in sugar, and truthfully, she prefers hay cubes over carrots-which gives you an idea how much she loves cubes! But a carrot every now and then-like when a girl has a birthday, is no bad thing.

In My Pasture

Yesterday I told you we were on day 2 of rain. Oh and rain it was! Wow. Not quite as bad as Saturday’s down pour. Even the neighbours were telling us how unusual a storm that one was! Great, I’m thinking…after an unusual, brutal winter, we’re going to get unusual spring patterns too? Seriously? Well, this will make great stories for the grandkids, eventually. Of course, the way The Kid is going, the grandkids are likely to have hooves, but that’s okay too. πŸ˜‰

This morning, I thought I’d share some pictures from the pasture.

This is from the weekend rains.

This is from the weekend rains.

That giant puddle was dried up on Friday! Oh, but look at all that green grass! That’s wonderful to see, and the Girls are loving it too. In fact, they’re leaving hay in the feeders to eat the green stuff instead. We might be able to consider not putting hay down soon…

My MaxCat.

My MaxCat.

I love this boy! He follows me everywhere in the farm-yard and pasture. When the water gets too deep for him, he calls me to come carry him over. No, he’s not spoiled. He’s my MaxCat. ❀

Napping girls.

Napping girls.

I came into the pasture to find these two napping together.

Look at that pretty girl!

Look at that pretty girl!

So relaxed, and sleepy. Good to see after they were all wound from Saturday night’s lightning show.

Look! Lilacs are budding!

Look! Lilacs are budding!

I wasn’t sure if they were going to come back or not. Between the brutal winter, odd spring, and snacking horses, there was some doubt. Nice to see the buds. Can’t wait for flowers!

It's trying!

It’s trying!

My poor cherry tree…the buds are there, they just haven’t opened up yet. It’s probably for the best because we still have to transplant it to where we started the orchard. Once the flowers start, that’s not possible until after the fruiting is done. Guess I better get on that!

Max CatOne more of MaxCat, just because he’s such a beautiful boy. Even with his smudge of dirt on his face. πŸ˜‰

A Rainy Kind of Day

This is our second day of rain. Yesterday started out nice, with sun and warmth, but the clouds, rolled in, rain fell, thunder boomed and lightening lit the sky. The girls were less than impressed. I’m in the dog house, yet again. According to the horses, I am supposed to be able to control the weather, and make them far more comfortable. Today, they alternated between sticking to me like glue, and snubbing me. What an odd bunch! πŸ™‚

You’ll have to forgive the foggy quality of today’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday photos. While I had the camera protected in a plastic bag, I couldn’t wipe the fog from the filter fast enough…On to this week’s prompts!

Where I Stand

Where I StandFrom where I stand, we have a pretty darn good life out here on the farm. Especially with a view like this!

Pink

Pink BrushesI have a teen daughter, and 4 mares. There’s a lot of pink in this house! Pink brushes, pink halters, pink saddle pads…pink, pink, pink!

Astrid wears pink...

Cameras are interesting. Tons of Astrid shots are like this. πŸ™‚

The pink halter is actually Sable's.

Here she having a love-up on Max. Silly boy has nearly been stepped on a few times because he lies down in front of her, waiting for snuffles from her.

Technology

Oooooh! New farm tool!

Oooooh! New farm tool!

This week technology and something new go hand in hand…this piece of technology is a 3 pt hitch auger for the tractor. What are we planning on doing with it, you ask? Well, we have these:

Something New

Fence posts.

Fence posts.

700 pieces of something new πŸ˜‰ …waiting to be installed. The auger will make it so much easier! We got the whole thing, assembly, and bit, cheaper than what we would have paid to rent a hydraulic post pounder for a week.

Favorite Place

Of all the places I like to be, my newest favorite place is where ever this girl is…

Favorite Place
Being where she is means that I am home, on my farm. Chances are the family is here, and we’re spending time with the girls. When I think about how blessed we are with the life we’re building here, I think there is no where else that could be my favorite place.

Sharing with Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Surprise in the Hay

One of the many joys of life out here is the surprises…sometimes, in doing routine things, you never know what you’ll find. Like last night. Hubby’s out getting the hay to feed the girls, and finds these in the hay.

Egg in hayWe don’t know what birds they’re from. We do have a whole bunch of red wing blackbirds around, and some all black song birds too. I don’t know enough about birds to know what types they are. I just like seeing them.

So pretty!

So pretty!

Eggs in hay2We just tucked some hay back around them and left them. The eggs should hatch out before we need to use that bale anyways, and we see no reason to disturb them. πŸ™‚

9

Today is my Girl’s birthday. Not The Kid, hers was back in February…and she’s 13 already. If you can believe it. Wow.

Nope today is Cookie’s birthday, and she is 9. How do I know this? Well, her d.o.b is on her registration certificate-which, by the way, is now, officially in my name. The whole world heard my squeals of glee when that came…now I just need to do the paper work to change her reg. name. πŸ™‚

Happy birthday to my crabby, grumpy, sweet, lovable, loving, Painted Pony.
